Chapter Sixteen

Lina

I woke to the sounds of the waves crashing against the shore.

When I had gotten home last night from my date, I had opened my bedroom windows, needing the sounds of the outside to hide the screaming going on in my own mind. My date with Lucas had been fine. He was sweet, a complete gentleman, and of course, gorgeous. Still though, there was just something missing. I didn’t feel a spark while I was with him and I knew that while he was a great guy, he just wasn’t the guy for me.

I lay in bed, enjoying the comfort of not having to rush to get ready for work. I was relaxing, but when I hear a few voices float into the room, I instantly grew alert. At first, I ignore them. There are always people out on the beach in the mornings, but then, I hear giggling and a familiar voice I recognized, caused me to become fully alert.

Ryan.

Throwing the covers off my body, I scrambled over to my window and pulled the curtains aside. Outside, two girls who were wearing dental floss as bikinis were standing in front of Ryan, who looked delicious under the morning sun. Their eyes traveled the entire length of his body. Even all the way up in my bedroom, I could sense their need for him. Hell, they were practically begging for him to take them right there on the beach.

I knew it was wrong to spy, but I couldn’t help myself. I watched as they giggled, flaunted their perky breasts, and flirted with Ryan. My stomach dropped and rage took over my senses. I had no right to feel this way, but I did. Then, when I saw one of the skanks place her hand on Ryan’s arm, I thought my head was going to explode.

Fury settled in and I just couldn’t think straight. He clearly was into bimbos like those girls. Of course, he wouldn’t be interested in someone like me. I looked nothing like those girls. I could never compete with anything like that.

Realizing I was being immature, I walked back to my bed and sat down. I wasn’t interested in the steamy doctor that was available and clearly into me, but I just had to like the guy who was so far out of my league, he wasn’t even in the same realm. Tears pricked my eyes, but I willed them away. I needed to just keep my head up and move on. Maybe I would meet someone at the party tonight. I could only hope so.
